Default 1999 GS300 - OEM halogens to 2004 Green-tint OEM Xenons...any errors?

I currently have a 1999 Blk GS300, and I have the OEM halogens. However, I just bought a set of OEM xenons out of a 2004 GS430. These have the pretty green-tint on them. My questions are, one, is it as simple as splicing wires (+ and -) to make them work, and two, will it trigger any errors that could annoy me everytime I start my car up? Please let me know...local mechanics here tell me it can't be done, but I know it can...I have been reading around, and I know a simple headlight assembly switch is doable. We're not trying to move the Earth!

I can confirm that it can be done. I have not done it myself so I cannot say how many wires need to be spliced. As far as I know, no lights or side effect. The only feature you will not get is the auto-leveling.

So you've seen the conversion, but have not done it yourself? Anyone out there done it can elaborate? I really want to do the conversion, but a bit apprehensive about the splicing. Help a fellow Lexus owner out. Thanks in advance!

I've done it.

My 99GS3 (just like you ) didn't have hid.
I bought the whole hid headlamp (with ballast, bulb, auto level motor) and swapped out the halogen headlamp.
It's not plug and play obviously. Just splice the wires and you're good to go.
The motor won't work so don't bother with it.

Halogen had the regular 9006 socket.
Oem hid had smaller connectors. I cut the connectors (only 2 wires) and cut the 9006 socket (2 wires) from the vehicle. Checked the polarity on the car with a tester and just wired/solder them together.

I was hesitant because I wondering if I should add a relay to it. It's been working since 2000 and no problems
I've been wanting to upgrade to the green tint also.

Let me know if you need help.
And no error code.

Hey, I just brought a ballast and 2 D2S bulbs, split the wires and plugged em in on my 2000 GS300. Only problem is the housing I think isnt big enough, so 1) the new bulbs dont go all the way in 2) the lights arent focused. You cant really tell, but I know they aint. Would this not happen if I just brought new housings from a GS400?

If by bulb, you are referring to cars that come with HID from the factory. The two most common are D2R and D2S. Anything else is almost always going to be a rebased aftermarket kit. A HID bulb needs a ballast to step up the voltage from 12VDC to 25,000VAC ignition and 85VAC operational. If you splice wires from the battery to the bulb, it will not light up. Did your car come with HID from the factory. If yes, then the HID from the ES will be compatible with your car. If not, then you will need a HID ballast and a new housing to use that D2R bulb.

D2R= Reflector housing
D2S= Projector housing

If your car did not come with HID from the factory, the D2S bulb will not fit into the housing. The halogen bulb size for the Non-HID GS is a 9006. The light isn't focused because a HID bulb was never meant to go in a halogen housing. If you want to, you can get a rebased D2R bulb for a 9006 socket. That will fit correctly into your non-HID housing. The focus will be much better than a D2S in a 9006 socket, but will never be as good as a true HID housing.

If you guys have any other questions feel free to ask. I've had plenty of experience with HID's
About to install my 6 HID bulb setup soon

Good luck to both of you,
Jeff
