This is a first. I'd take apart the dash and console to get a good look at all the wiring. Make a good assesment on the damage and parts to replace.

Yoy live up north...maybe a mouse crawled up in their and chewed some wires.

Is there a writeup/DIY guide on how to remove the stock amp? I guess I can't just do it from underneath by removing the part by the passanger side legs...

I actually just figured it out. took the amp out and the upper side of the amplifier smells like it's burnt. There is no damage to any of the wires. I guess I should just go ahead and order that amp from above...

I just took the amp apart and this is what it looks like (sorry for the low quality pics, I just did a couple of quick shots with my phone cam)

Bottom side of the top part...

Yes, this is the pioneer system. I don't have any electrical upgrades. Everything is totally stock, besides wheels, suspension and tints.

Looks like you blew some power decoupling components to the card...usually capacitor/inductor pi circuit at board level power input. The circuit tried to deal with an inrush and lost.

Does that mean I need more than just an amp?

I'm curious as to what caused the surge and why only the amp was suceptable to it...then maybe it wasn't in inrush and the amp had parts that were marginal toleranced and failed over time (wore out - not an inrush ).

Since only the amp failed, change it out and continue. Power it up and keep an eye on it for a while...up the volume. If all is good, button it up and call it a day.

Just replaced the amp but the sound is still not there. I pulled the ECU just to reset anything that might have been saved. You guys think a fuse might be blown?
