It's kinda funny, but I have seen a set of spacers get installed on one members car, and through time get sold on our classifieds and re-used by several other members over time.
I believe Jawnthen bought a set of spacers that were passed on about 3 times over a 4 year period on these forums. He recently sold them to another member !
Once someone get's wider aftermarket rims, these spacers are the first to go.
Key things to note:
1. Use a one inch (25mm) or less spacer with built in studs, so no issue with threads. Spacers that ar e 10mm or less should come with replaceable studs that are longer.
2. Purchase only quality spacers like from H & R , you are safe with a 1" spacer. Though there are some other good brands, this is the only brand I would recommend hands down. There are some cheap no name spacers out there that ARE dangerous.
3. Do a search for H & R spacers. Someone posted in the past few months, where to get them at a good price
4. Follow torque specifications for all the bolts.
Lexus (just as Toyota) has always undersized our factory wheel well spacing. Spacing out smaller width rims has always been a very nice cosmetic improvement. It should of come that way from the factory.

and yes, while i don't really recommend anyone doing adaptors (these are really called adaptors not spacers), i don't think it will be a problem putting them on and drive normally. unless you drive very hard i think you will be fine.

I have 19x8.5 all the way around, and have been considering the spacer/adapter route for the rear to get a more 'staggered' appearance without having to pay the $ for new wheels.
So the recommendtion then would be to get a set of H&R 25mm spacers for the rear, correct?

I am almost certain a 25MM spacer will be too much with an 8.5 inch wheel, 10 possibly 15 may work depending on your offset but you will to have the longer wheelstuds installed, in the end it will only give you a marginal upgrade.

On a stock wheel you can add a 25mm.
For an aftermarket wheel, knowing the width only, you can't tell if it will fit. We need to know the offset. With the correct offset, it's even possible for an 11 inch wheel to fit with a 25mm spacer.
Mark what is the offset of your wheel and are you willing to shave the lip to make the clearance if neccessary? I have connections that will install the spacers and shave the lip for you, and you already have a discount coupon from them already !
As far as stud length, even a 5mm spacer should have longer studs installed. It is not safe to run spacers thicker than 5mm without having longer studs. The H & R spacers do come with the studs when you order the correct PN from them. On a 20 to 25mm spacer, the longer studs are built into the spacer and the factory studs are just used to bolt the spacer to the hub only. So you don't need to replace the oem studs when you go this thick.

I was actually contemplating the same thing, goind with a 25mmm spacer but was concerned about rubbing, etc. I just got my l-tuned suspension installed. Iam currently running Stern ST-8 , 20 x 8.5 inch wheels, would a 25mm space be too much with a 38 offset....
