Default JP - Wise Square to 98 OEM Tail Light Comparison.

It stopped raining long enough for me to snap a few photos. I was all prepared for RMMGS4's tail light mod but after the install, I think I LIKE the larger clear section. We'll see.

Anyone who has the 98 OEM tail lights, this is a no-brainer. The JP LED tails are a 1000% improvement. I was told it took a few years off the car.

Here are the photos:

One thing that I didn't see mentioned in previous write-ups was after installation, you will have four plastic pieces left over. They are hole covers that were previous hiding the screws on the outside of the light, under the trunk lid. Nobody is ever going to notice but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The box and packaging from Junction Produce is the same as the box from Wise, as posted by RMMGS4. The only difference is a well illustrated, 4-page instruction booklet, Junction Produce card, and a few JP stickers.

Here is the night & day difference in the two tails:

Darius,
those 4 plastic pieces do fit over these existing holes to hide the screws, just like the factory tails. That's why I didn't mention it as an issue.

Nice follow up though.

Hey Glen,

Dont take that observation as a shot at your write up. You and Henry made the definitive review/DIY. The factory hole covers were a different texture? They were "rougher" - matching the factory tail light housing. The plastic on the new tails is SO glossy smooth that the hole covers didnt match. The factory covers snapped into place and had to be removed with a tiny flathead screwdriver and there were grooves for the hole cover to fit into. These holes are just smooth and shiny. I threw them away or I would take pictures for a comparison.

If you still have your lights outlined in red, I want to come by sometime and see it in person before making the permanent change.

Thanks! I'll take more pics when the cars is clean, the rains stops, and my rim returns from iForged. If you look at the 2nd photo in the first column, you'll see that the rims are uneven . One is 10" wide, the other is 6...or whatever the stock size is.

Darius,
My only topic of discussion is that the factory screw hole covers DO fit these new tails.

I'm just pointing out that it appears that you did not try to install them and others should not be led to believe that those holes are not coverable, which is the only reason for my response.

Your additional comments are welcome as I never commented about the install or the glossy finish.

very nice darious, good comparison pics

about teh covers, today i actually took off my jp taillights. i noticed about those clips. the plastic on the jp led taillights are glossy like you said, the clips will fit but it will actually look pretty funny imho. nonetheless, the part is always covered so i do't think it's big deal

and for me? i still think the taillight "mod" that glen did makes them look better

So these are the ones that Carson has, are they made by JP or Wise? I guess I missed that part of the whole discussion
