Default Master Cylinder is shot. Any suggestions on where to buy replacement?

Hi CL,

My master cylinder is shot. I know Lexus sells a replacement for over $1500. Anyone know where I could get one for less? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.

Surprizing that the master cylender can not be rebuilt ...

Look for club member GAZI who may be able to locate one for you.

They don't (to my knowledge) re-man. these, so a junk yard is your best bet. Check the part #, they may have used this in a few cars...

A lot of salvage yards in my area won't sell brake parts. Liability BS I guess. That sucks that yours went.

There is a used master cylinder on ebay for sale or you can check your local salvage yards,i purchased one for my gs400 used from a salvage yard for 400.00 and cost me 200.00 labor to have it installed by my local lexus dealer

I am old school and would only trust rebuilding the master-cylender, with new pistons and springs. I would touch slavage yard items only if there is a physical deformity in the master cylender like cracks. Even those, I would rebuild, just in case the pistons have dried out.

I am surprised that dealer does not sell a re-build kit [pistons, springs etc]

Do you guys know if the 1998 1999 GS Master Cylinders are interchangeable with the 2000 Lexus GS300 Master Cylinders?

...

or whether the GS400 Master Cylinders are interchangeable? Thank you.
