I never use the AC or air vents, so it doesn't matter much to me.

if i use the air coming from the outside, does that get filtered or is it only recirculated air?

I think only air coming in from the outside is filtered. If its recirculated then it probably doesn't go thru the filter. I could be wrong though

Another thing about that DIY filter. Those are white out of the box. I think the factory one is gray/black color from the factory. Obviously not black, but its a darker shade. Might be why the dirt shows up so much more on that white HVAC filter.

I rather use the window because I like saving gas. I drive 95% city with a lot of stop and go traffic. the AC will drag the engine too much and gas mileage will go down like crazy, not that it already has. And plus, I'm in southern california where it's probably sunny 90% of the years. Its not humid either. Why drive with windows up when you can cruise with the windows down

To find the filter, Open up your glove box compartment. There should be a removeable thin plastic piece that you can lift up to remove. Once you got that out of the way, straight ahead, there should be another plastic piece and on it, there is a word on it that says "UP" with an arrow for indication. Just pull that out and you'll see the filter. Pull that out and replace filter. It's that easy.
