Default Annoying Noise Coming from bottom of Car

Hey guys. I have a 98' Lexus GS300 and its starting to make a weird noise that comes from under the car. I cant quite put my finger on it. I

t makes a lil bit of noise while idling but not always. However during acceleration from stop to about 35 mph, or while traveling at slow speeds, it makes this annoying rattling noise. Any clue?? I'd appreciate anything you guys can give me. I'm thinking Muffler maybe, but not sure.

I would bet money that it is your heat shield - either because it has rusted and become loose or else there is a piece of gravel stuck in there.

Yea. Loose heatshield over the catalytic convertor seems to be a common problem in a lot of cars. Just tighten it back up if you are able to do it yourself.

LOL - the heatshield is the metal cover that goes over your cats and probably some other parts of your exhaust system. It is there due to the heat - thus a heatshield. It really isn't necessary to keep it on there.

Look at your cats and look at the piece of metal surrounding it. That's it.

I know there is one right above the y-pipe or so. It's basically a thin metal cover that goes over the pipe. It's there so heat could reflect. That way, you minimize the heat being absorbed into the cabin.

Oh Ohhhh, that sounds like the symptoms of a bad cat converter. If you have under 80k on your car, Cat conv. is covered under warranty.

Okay, so i'm gonna piggy back a bit off of this thread but i think it's relevant.. .if he does have bad cats and has over 80k miles and does not want to pay thousands thru lexus to replace his cats, what are his options? (I'm relating this a bit to me too ). Has anyone used aftermarket cats, if so, from where? How much?

I'm curious about the fitment of the o2 sensors on universal aftermarket cats. Good question.
