![Question](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Has anyone had any luck replacing the Lexus Portable Plus phone in their GS with another phone. (Nokia, Samsung or newer Motorola).
I currently have Voicestream service with a Nokia 5100 series phone. I would use the Lexus phone but it's so old, and BIG. I would be embarrassed to carry that huge thing around. Everyone would think I was happy to see them with that big bulge in my pocket! :-)
It looks like it can be done. I see two RJ12 or RJ45 connections in the lower armrest. I haven't checked my owners manual for info yet. (Buy the way, am I the only geek that actually reads his owners manual?)
Any Info will be greatly apprieciated !

Your question has been asked a number of times and I haven't found anyone who has truly replaced the Lexus phone so that you can use the factory fitments in the console, speaker, dial, etc.
Here's a link to an old thread where a similar question was asked.
If you can figure it out, please let me know! I'd love to activate mine with something more useful.
I don't think mine even detaches from the car, so it may be a different option than yours. Has a hand dial control on the steering wheel, mic up by the rear view mirror. Toggles the radio down automatically when you dial or receive a call.

I have installed a Nokia cradle in my 1999 GS300.
The phone integrates with both the radio mute feature and the rear window antenna. The cradle recharges the battery, and connects to a microphone in the headliner and a speaker in the footwell.
I chose to have the cradle mounted on a stalk - but the installer was willing to put it in the console if I chose.
I have one caveat. You will need to get lithium batteries as the nickel metal hydride overcharge. I'm happy with the result.
