Default jeeeeeez.... this key programming is a REAL WORKOUT PLAN:)

alright guys, need some help.
i got only one non-remote key when i got my car and decided to get a remote master key.
got a remote uncut key from a CL member for 50 bucks and cut it with another 50.
i followed the instructions from Tami's website which was similar to most posted on the forums here.
thing is i got the remote to work but cannot get the key to start the car.
not sure whether it is wrong timing or not but i have tried since yesterday.
the non-remote key i have does not open the glove box neither does it unlock the trunk thingy below the steering but starts the car, locks/unlocks the doors and opens the trunk. BUT to my surprise when i cut the key yesterday, the cut key does everything. i mean everything except starting the car. i know it is not starting the car cos it has not been programmed.
what i want to know is
1, Am i using the correct procedure to programme the other key?
2, Is the non-remote key i have a master key since it opens the locks, trunk and drives the car?OR is the non-remote key not a master and is therefore unabling me to programme the new one.
sorry for the write-up but the push-pedal six ,five times programming info is making me shed unneccessary pounds. am already slim enough
here are the instructions which i have followed so far.(please note that the remote programming was successful)

Lexus Key and Remote Programming Instructions

Key Programming1. Insert an already programmed master key into the ignition. Do not turn.
2. Press and release the gas pedal 5 times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal 6 times.
4. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Insert the new key you want to program into the ignition.
6. Press and release the gas pedal one time.
7. Wait 1 minute. The security light will be blinking for this one minute. When it stops blinking your key is programmed. To end programming step on brake one time.

Remote Programming1. Close and lock all doors. Unlock and open drivers door.
2. Put key into ignition and remove. Do not turn it on.
3. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times.
4. Close and open drivers door.
5. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times.
6. Put key into ignition. Turn to "ON" , turn off and remove.
7. You will see the door locks cycle by themselves.
8. On the remote, press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK button at the same time for 2 seconds.
9. On the remote, press the LOCK button for 1 second.
AT THIS POINT, the locks should cycle by themselves ONE time. This means the procedure was accepted. IF the locks cycle twice it has failed. IF this happens you must start over. Hold the remotes higher up for better reception.
10. Close and open door to end programming procedure.

thanks alot guys.
any info is apprciated

Hey Oldog.

I think you need an existing master key with the remote to program and add an additional master key. It sounds like your trying to use a valet key to program the master which I dont think will work. Hopefully someone can verify this.

Your right about the dance program. its tough to program these keys with all the peddle pushing and and door unlocking but I found its all about the timing to get it right.

BTW, your key programming1 looks correct, this is what i used to add an additional master key to start the car. Like I said before its all about your timing.

Good Luck

GS Believer is correct

unfortunately you have 2 choices

1) buy a new ECU - it comes with 3 new keys ~ 2000$

2) get a master locksmith to modifiy and hack your existing ECU for ~ 400$

If you need the number of somone that does that well, let me know. I lost both my master keys and I had to go with 2. Its been a few months and everything has been fine, no engine codes and everything diagnoses perfectly.

The locksmith i used is a AAA lexus specialist and uses a program written for him by a lexus code specialist.

neways, good luck.

your out of luck because a master key is needed to program any keys to the car there are only 2 choices #1 get a new ECM very expensive or #2 remove and send out ECM and have it reflashed to orginal state with new keys, I cannot remember the name of the place onling what did the refash but it was like $250 to do this or option #3 get a used ECM @ the junk yard with the master key ...

Default thanks but

some guy at the dealership said the non-remote was a master key.
could he be wrong? maybe i should go to the dealer and ask them to program it just to see what they say.
man, i really do not wanna spend $2000 on a new ECU.

the easy way to check is to see if it opens anything like glove box ,trunk etc as the valet will only open the door and start the car . but one option is to get a used ECU from a wrecking yard with the matching key and swap out the ECU with the used one and put the programed key is and program your 2 keys into the ECU or if you have a second car can send your out to be reflashed ..locksmiths with the special equipment to flash the EEPROM . not the dealer they just sell you a new one for $1900!

Default yes.

it opens the trunk, doors etc and starts the car. does not open glovebox.
but assuming i find a locksmith who can reflash the ECU, so he will reflash it and clear it out and programme a new key?
also where is the ecu located? and how do i get it out?
thanks for ur help guys.
just wanna get this out of the way ASAP

yes, u would send ur ecu, keys to him

he would reflash ur ECU and reprogram ur keys. probably better to have this done somwehre u can drive to. I dont think its very uncommon.

It took the guy i went to about 30 min to do everything. He even cut me another 2 free keys incase i lost my master again.

ecu is located in the lower right quadron of ur engine bay in a rectangular shaped plastic box thats vertically mounted. you unscrew the cover and unplug it and pull it straight out, very easy.

Default hey

got mine after a day of annoying trials.
when it says turn on, u don't have to turn the car on. it simply means turn ignition on.
hope that helps.
the key is for u to be fast and calculated.
it can annoying especially when people say it is very easy.
but trust me after u get it u will say the same.
