Default Is a 98 GS400 too old to get now?

Wanting to get a GS400 but I'm not sure if the 98 model is too old to get now. 2 more years and it'll be a 10 year old car. Is it stupid to get a 98 model or what? How much is one with 80k miles worth at the moment? This is going to be a second car so I'm not in a rush but would really like one...... Don't know what to do help!!!

I don't really think getting a 98 is terrible at all

actually if you ask the first Generation they would be very upset with you saying that.... they have older models ... and its probally gonna be the cheapest you can find the model ....just depends on what You want ... yea know ?

I Just bought my 99 gs400 early febuary this yr with 124 miles on it

IMO
I LOVE IT ~ ~~! ! ! !

take my advice get it if you like it and know the history

Hell no! It's a timeless design. Lexus, in general has cars that age very well over time. My dad has a 92 LS w/ 210K on the clock, and it still looks great!

i don't think you can say it's a "stupid" decision. for example my car with 70k miles, no one believes that the car is already 8 yr old. it depends on what condition the gs is that you are looking.

and for the price of the car i think it's a great buy. styling wise it's all up to the buyer, i mean you should know what you are expecting with that kind of money.

If you can find one that is clean grab it. People don't believe mine is a 98 because there are no cracks in the leather and the paint is immaculate. You will find your diamond in the ruff

Not stupid at all.. Condition is everything.. Low or high mileage... You could have a high mileage
GS look better than a GS with 50k on it.. It all depends how the owner took care of it.. I really don't think none of us would have the 2 nd Gen GS if it wasn't worth getting.. Good Luck...

Ditto, everyone I meet thinks my car is brand new.

Last week 2 neighborhood kids jogging by were overheard saying that my car is "one sexy b1tch"...

I think it depends on what you are looking for. For what I wanted, I had to get a car with low mileage. But, if that doesn't bother you, then find one that suits you and go for it!!!

If it wasn't for todays high gas prices I would get rid of my wife's crappy Maxima and buy a good used 98 GS400 for her. She absolutely loves driving my car way more than hers. She typically comments on how much more "solid" and well put-together it feels compared to her Maxima.

She loves the brakes too way more than her car (but my brakes are not stock).

If the GS you are looking at is in good condition and not too high mileage, GET IT. You won't regret your decision one bit with a well-taken-care of 98 GS.

nope...not stupid at all. I used to have a 94 gs300 and recently bought my 98 gs400. Like everyone else said...just find one in good condition that has been well maintained.

think about it, thats like asking yourself if it's a bad move to buy a 10-yr old Toyota, with the exception of the potential diff in maintenance $$$ IF you take it to the stealership for service. Beyond that, condition / miles is everything

I had a similar experience - I was parking in a local strip mall and some lady was waiting next to her Accord and saw me parking. She asked me what kind of car it was since it looked really nice, and I told her it was a Lexus GS.

Her next question was whether they just came out, and I said yes, the 3rd gen did just come out recently, but mine is a '98. She couldn't believe it and thought mine was brand new.
