Thanks. I plan to do it through the vents for 30 minutes. Do you know why the AC compressor has to be on?

Not sure why I said that earlier about having the AC on...... The only reason why I think the AC should be on is perhaps to have the hot air going through any pipes of the AC system that would otherwise be closed if the AC was off.

Try it with it the AC on and then with it OFF.

Will spraying lysol, or febreeze on the ac filter help? I also have this problem on my IS, but usually turning the a.c. to fresh air solves the problem (temporarily)

Hey trent, before you go out and buy anything, first try my method (it never fails to work for me).

The next time you drive in the city and can leave the windows open (read that is in not driving very fast on the highway, but more of slow city driving with lots of stops etc), turn up the heat to maximum and the fan setting to maximum and drive like that for a good 20 mins with the AC button on. Do that a few times in two days and voila, the smell will be gone for the whole year.

I have done this personally myself once a year in both cars (my wifes Maxima and my GS) and it works like magic. Does not cost you a cent and cures the problem completely.

When you do this can you just leave the car running and the heat on instead of driving around?

You could if you want to. It's just more efficient to combine it with driving and do some errand at the same time.

Tried it, but it didnt work. My dad drove around for about 2 hours with heater on full speed at 85deg with A/C on and it still smells... It doesnt smell as bad, but still smells pretty bad.

lol, guys new A/C air filter and couple of sprays on it with your favorite cologne - its not a big investment, if the old filter has the stench in it will never go away, the old filter has to come out. Just try it this way, take out the old filter and spray in the the empty spot, leave the filter out.

Hey LexT thanks for pointing this out.

I completely forgot to mention in all my posts that I did change my A/C filter when I initially had this problem, however the problem did not go away completely. However once I ran the A/C on full blast at the hottest setting, the smell completely dissappeared.

So, to sum it up, replace your A/C filter and run this procedure to get rid of mildew in the rest of the system.
