Well, I was curious to see what kind of comments this thread would generate. Nice cross-section. My thoughts:

- I'm not worried about the quality/reliability. This isn't 1978. Consumer Reports even gives the Magnum a "Recommended" in the April '06 issue, if that kind of thing is important to you. After 2 months and 2K miles, the only issue I have is a rattle in the left rear door. Oil level on the dipstick hasn't moved. Everything works the way it's supposed to. No, the carpet and interior plastics aren't Lexus level, but I'm OK with that. The doors "thunk" like a Mercedes.

- There aren't a lot of Magnums in the SF south bay. I've only seen 3 other SRT-8s in the 2 months since I bought this one. DaShocker - I thought there were a lot of GTOs out here, but realized most of 'em are Cavaliers Actually, that's a great car for the $$, and a lot of fun. I needed 4 doors, though. Also almost pulled the trigger on a CTS-V (LS6 with 6 speed - mmm), but that styling...

- The visibility out the back is way better than my GS with the factory spoiler. At 100 mph, you should be focused forward, anyway.

- It's gets 21-22 mpg at 75 mph. Around town, especially if I'm on it, is, ah, somewhat less. Combined has been coming in around 16. The GS would pull 18-19 under the same circumstances.

- Brian - are you sure those were SRTs you were running against, and not RTs? There's a pretty significant difference. The GS is stout for a 4 liter, but there's no comparison; unless you're running a blower, the SRT will walk away from it.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Pete

I raced a Dodge Charger SRT-8 last week coming from work. I gave him a head start and walked, no, ran away from it with no problem....

Yah, bikes are a whole other realm. The stuff that's out now is just insane. 600s in the 10s? Unbelievable. And they stop and handle, too.
