Default Raced a Ford SVT Lightning!!!!

Here's the story:
I see a Ford SVT F-150 Lightning and pull up next to it, looking at the guy, he sees me and i give it a little gas. He goes ahead of me and then i we cut of the traffic and I pull past him(i did get a head start). All the way to about 100 he couldnt catch up.
After this, we both come up to a red light checking each other out. When the light turns green, we both go for it and we are tied all the way to 80 mph, and then i slowed down.
This made my night. Keeping up with a supercharged v8 5.5L is not an easy task for a 4.0 v8.
Ok well, thats basically it. So fellow gs4 owners, feel free to try a lightning out if the opportunity arrives.
Some details about the race:
I have a 2000 gs400 (stock)
The lightning was an actual lightning, however i believe it was an automatic.
I had ect on but left it in regular auto mode.

Sorry, but I don't believe the guy in the Lightning really knew what he was doing...You should have been smoked especially by the new ones. The 5.5 L SC V8 goes from 0-60 in 5.4 sec and that's in magazines. If you went up to 80 mph, then he should have walked away from you with his SC...

You beat him because...

1) It was NOT a SVT Lightning but a poser F150.
2) The driver sucks and doesn't deserve to drive that truck...

Reality man, the SVT lightning is FAST...

Well, may be then that might explain how he was neck in neck with him from the start.

I guess the blow-by he did admit that he had a head start...
Maybe the truck had some massive wheelspin....

nope, neither of us had wheelspin. we raced on a major street full of cops and therefore you dont really want to attract any extra attention. also, it was an actual lightning or he had a full lightning conversion kit or something. i really like lightnings and can tell the difference between a real and a fake. remember i said it was probably an auto.

Did it have the "altezza-style" taillights that now come standard on the Lightnings? That could give a clue about its year.

These are the splits from when I raced a SVT at Carslbad whith a bad traction day for the non AWD cars. It was stock.
60' 2.377
330' 6.118
1/8 9.144@81.54
1/4 13.959@98.56

As you can see he got a terrible launch even the 1/8 is kinda slow, then wham all you could hear was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz as his supercharger was really getting into the act. Caught me at the end and he won by ~1 car length. They are extremely fast even stock.

The only way you can really tell how fast a car is is to take it to the track like Ming does. There are just too many variables with street racing.

I will put money on the 2002 Lightning that it will SPANK a GS400 at the track. That's why I said, the driver must really suck and not know how to drive his damn SC'ed truck. He should be ashamed of himself...

The lightning is a bada** truck especially the new ones, if Im not mistaken the old ones ( 98-00 ) had 360hp and 440lbs of torque while the new ones ( 01-up ) have something like 380hp and 450lbs of torque. Now if the truck that you raced was pre 2001 then it might be possible that you can hang with him since the first Gen. of the new lightning have had some problems with HP like every other ford , but if it was the 2001 lightning then the idiot cant drive worth crap or he was just testing what your car can do. Now my question is if the SVT Lightning and the GMC Cyclone went at it ( both in stock form ) who would win ?

i guess you guys are right about the crappy driver, and it didnt have altezza lights so it might of not been a 2001. however, i am to say that i kept up with a supercharged car, even if the moron didnt know how to race it!

I played with a non 01 lightning both from a 40 stomp and from a dead start. Each time he put two cars on me real quick and the distance stayed about the same after 70 ish.

They make 320rwhp and a whole lot more torque than a GS4 motor. Even with the weight, they have an advantage.

Thumbs up A very fast truck

Nice race power3dfx!!

I raced with my buddy at work with his 2001 Lightning a while ago. He put 2 cars on me all the way from start to 60mph. He power braked his truck to 1300 rpm at launch with no wheel spin. A very good start for him. I just put in power mode, vhc on and auto mode. I think I had a bad start, but anyway it might go, he would win the race. Once the SC started to kick in, it is almost impossible to catch up that truck.

I really like the Lightning, I test drove the 2000 model and ordered a 2001 modle, but somehow I cancel my order and got a gs4 instead. I feel more confident in a Lightning than the gs4, and loved the music from the SC in the truck. Once again, I am really glad our fellow gs4 owners had the chance to race one too, and if you have the chance to drive one, I bet you will love it and maybe want to buy one

Default NOT!

I think if you rolled up on that truck on the hwy @65 to 70 and then punch it you will run with them neck to neck , otherwise hes gonna leave you. I test drove one and theres no way you stuck with him side by side up to 80mph unless he spun his tires for a good 2secs. I own a 98 gs400 and really would love to talk **** about ford's products but the lightning is faster then the GS....Sorry
