Default IS300 / GS300 Rim Compatibility

a friend of mine just got the new '02 is300. he says it has the 17 inch rims that are found on the gs400s.
are these the same exact rims? I wont be able to look at em for a week. But i really want to switch my 16s with the 17s, if these are the same as the gs4 ones.
so i went to the lexus web site and it says the is300 comes with:
17 x 7.0-in alloy wheels with 215/45ZR17 tires.
It also says for 400 bucks more u could upgrade it to graphite polished-alloy wheels. my friend says he has the graphite ones..whats the diff between graphite polished and just alloy?

all information on whether these are the same exact ones as the gs4 and other compatibility issues are greatly appriected..

thanks,
allen

no they are NOT exactly the same. they are very similar but if u put them side by side, there are noticeable differences. yes, the GS and IS rims are interchangeable. i believe its a 5x113 bolt pattern or something like that.

The IS300 rims are too narrow for the GS. As you have stated, they're 17x7. For the GS, the stock rims are 16x7.5 with optional 17x8. I would not go smaller than 17x8 width.

Why would you want to buy Lexus rims when you can get better aftermarket ones for the same price or cheaper? The only deal is if you requested the factory rim upgrade at delivery for a few hundred bucks.

damn -=(. guess im not getting them..well, i wanted em cuz hes a friend and i would be getting it for very cheap. about 500 bucks. and i think i could sell my rims for at least $200 within hours. so it was a good deal..but guess they are too narrow..
the gs400 rims are perfect for me because im more for speed and racing than looks, and 18 inch and higher aftermarket rims will slow me down big time. and so the 17inch gs400 rims made sense..and i love the way they look..specially when the car is dropped. guess i just gotta wait for another friend to buy a gs400 with em on it -=)

well...thanks for all the info, it helped alot =)

Fierce GS - The stock 17" wheels aren't that light. You can get Volk TE37's in 18" and they should be lighter than the stock 17's...plus you'll get more grip with the 18's (since you can go wide with 'em) and your corner handling will be better (shorter sidewalls)

You can also go with the Racing Hart CP-035 which are lighter than the TE37's...and they go up to 18x10's...

manaray...the cp-035's are nice but from what i know they just come in white and gold..and i like the te37s much better, but i think the same is true for the color of those also. I want a simple 5 or 6 spoke layout like the gs400 rims and like the volk ones, but in silver finish. and 18 inch would be a perfect size if its lighter than the stock 17''. i also love the lowenhart ld1s, but im pretty sure that weighs a grip more than the stock ones. i would for sure get the te37s in white if i had a blue gs...but i have a silver gs...hehe..well do u have any other suggestions that match my description?

thanks,
allen

I also like the look of the volks compared to the racing harts .

Manaray ( or any wheel expert ) how much lighter do you think the volk mag te-37's are compared to the regular volk te-37's ?

Fierce - You can have ANY wheel re-painted (powder coated). I have a buddy that ownes a huge powder coating system (conveyor belt!) so if you're local to LA, I could probably have him hook you up...don't know the cost but I'll be having lunch him this week, I'll ask him...

1niceride - I'm not sure on the weight diff. but I can't image that it's more than pound (maybe two)...Miguel might know (where has he been lately?).

hows the repainting/powder coating comparable to the quality of a stock silver finish? i mean like for a car, if you repaint it, you lose much of the paints integrity over the stock paint job. and the thing is, when u get silver finish on any rims, is that powder coated from the manufacturer, or is it just the color of the outside metal they used...i dunno, i think im going to refrain from the repainting procedure..just sounds wierd putting all that money into a set of rims and having em repainted the same day. hehe. will any info is appreciated..

thanks
