Default road trip...........

im gonna be drving from norcal to socal again. however, this time i want to leave my rims on. Do you recommend going on long trips on 20's with low profile tires? its about an 8hr trip and the tires has about 5k on it. Im just curious because i heard low pros wear out fast and i dont want to have to buy another set just yet.... thanks,..

All depends on what kind of wear/thread rating your tires have. Low pro's usually have somewhat of a lower rating...like 220-360....than most normal tires out there. You should be fine imo....be safe

tip) make sure there is A TON of room in front of you at all times so you can see debris and swerve before you get to it.

i made the mistake of following a truck too closely and ran over a 2x4 that the truck easily cruised over... I think that's how I cracked my OEM 17".

Good point.....had the same thing happen to me but it was a delaminated tire from an 18 wheeler....

not only does it save gas when you draft - but when you follow the shiny gas truck, you can see your reflection in the convex tank and it looks cool!

RECOMMENDATION!!!

Be sure to get an alignenment if you even think it's slightly off. 800 miles of bad alignment can destroy those tires.

Bad Tow -> (making sure tires all facing same direction) will bald the entire tire and kill gas mileage....)
Bad Camber -> (will bald the inner tire out causing wasted tire, road noise, possibel bumpy ride)

A buddy of mine ran through a set of Michelin Pilot Sports in 5 months (5K) because of improper tow measurements... What a waste of gas and money!

This is a great thread. Im actually about to go from Mobile, AL to the Florida Keys to spend a month at my condo. Thats about a 13 hour trip. I have 20's with the stock height, is there anything special I should have the Lexus tech do? I still havent put the fricking Tein CS v2's on yet.

A lot of folks say to wait on the alignment after installing the coilovers. Does this mean that I should NOT get them installed before the road trip? I might have them put on tomorrow and I will be leaving for the Keys in two days or so. After pulling off the strut bolts to put on the strut bar I definitely need an alignment anyway.

Default Align that bad boy

Lexbox,
You definetly need to align the car after the CSs and you should throw them on before your trip because you will love the ride and if you don't you can soften it up pretty easily.

I take road trips in my ride pretty frequently and haven't had any problems with tire wear. With that said one thing you should absolutely do before a road trip is check your tire pressure, Under inflated or over inflated tires can have a large impact on tire wear.
