Talking Installed, Yokohama AVS db, yesterday

WOW...what a difference over the Potenzas (17"). I have a GS430, took delivery August 2000 (first one in Orlando at the time). At 21,000 miles the Potenzas were shot...thanks to Club Lexus, and a little research at Tire Rack I decided on the Yoko's.

It is truly amazing the difference these tires make. Believe it or not my GS is now as quite as my neighbors 98' LS400. The only complaint I have is that darned wind noise around the side view mirrors at speed.

Those of you considering a tire replacement I would highly recommend these.

PS...with all of the horrible tragedy two weeks ago, my wife refuses to fly just yet...we had a trip to Biloxi, Miss planned to do a little gambling, well we are driving tomorrow. I ordered the tires last Thursday and requested they be shipped 2-day UPS air to gaurantee arrival before we left...well they arrived late yesterday (5 days), UPS claimed they are all back-up still. Tire Rack gladly credited the cost to me...Tire Kingdom, here in Orlando (authorized installers), took delivery and called me the minute they were in. Installed in 90 minutes lastnight.

I'm not what you would call an aggressive driver...I'll get on it from a traffic light, but I'm not one to throw it around much. But I did take a few of my favorites exit and entry ramps at speed, and noticed no difference...If anything, because of the Potenza's being worn out I would say that the Yoko's felt more secure.

I'm on my second set of AVS Sports, and I love them. I don't know how much quieter the dB's are. I would only assume there's a trade-off between quiet and performance.

Tman, would u say these new tires are an optimal balance between a quiet ride and road grip over your older tires?

TMan-

Please post an update on your Yokohama dBs. Has the noise level increased somewhat as it wore out? I asked the question because in the LS400 size, the noise increased a bit. I'm wondering about the 17 size. Thanks man.

Not apples to apples but we had dbs put on my wifes Maxima (15s)a while back and they continue to impress. They easily outhandle the Michelin Pilots we had on before. I also am able to compare for sound to the Michelin Pilots (16s) on my GS. The dbs have around 6000 miles and my Michelins have about 8000. The difference in noise is dramatic. On stretches of road around here where the Michelins have that wonderful howl, the dbs are quiet as can be. I was a long time fan of Michelins, when the radial first came in, Michelin got it right faster than anybody (albeit at a price) but the capabilities of the dbs for a fair amount less money is dramatic. I keep reading about the handling loss with dbs and maybe it is there but in dry and wet, they are a lot better than the Michelin Pilots that were on her car. While I have been looking at the T1S for the GS when it needs it, the more I drive the Maxima with the dbs the harder it is to talk myself into anything else. They are that good.

No wonder the Yokos sounded quieter than 21K old Potenzas... ANYTHING new (except POS Nittos) would sound quieter.
