Yesterday I had to take the big dog in for an oil change. As the guy put my car on the lift I was looking at the exhaust and Y-pipe. I've been hearing about how difficult it is to change these things up. That some people would rather take the car to a mechanic and have this stuff done. Keep in mind I really have no mechanical skills at all, but as I was looking at my car I'm thinking I could do this stuff myself, why would I pay a mechanic obscene amounts of money when I could just make this a weekend project. Like I said before I've never really worked on a car but I figure I installed my intake now I can tackle this as well. Having this car is making me more mechanically adept.

exhausts is easy if u have the right tools a jack and 4 jackstands, but it might be hard for u to take of the rusty bolts. i say givfe it a shot~! with a jack and a couple of stands its only goin to take u 2hours tops as a newb i say go for it -=) i did my supras exhaust back then with one jack and the car tilted in about an i would say i dont recommend it kinda dangerious to go under the car with just a jack but i do it everyday at work gluck just go for it the only hard parts for u are prollyy the rubber hangers !

If you are just getting an axle-back exhaust, then you'll be fine. Honestly, assembling the exhaust is easier than getting those bolts off if they're rusted (WD-40 helps). Even I think changing out an exhaust is easier than an intake install. The exhaust is straight foward.

Back in the day when i had a cavalier i was on their forum and i remember a post that one of their more active members died when his car fell on him while doing this...

So yeah.... jackstands are worth it.

pretty easy stuff.. the hardest part i found when doing my gs4 was the 2 rubber rings holding the exhaust cans on each side. and also i put a towel on each exhaust tip to prevent scraping the paint off the rear bumper when your exhaust is hanging.

easy, but if you don't know what you're doing, you could still be in some trouble. if you see rust, soak all the bolts you plan to remove with wd40. don't strip/snap bolts, that is a hassle.
