Default Pep Boys -

With Jiffy Lube again in the negative spotlight and some so-so stories about Grease Monkey, what about Pep Boys. I was over there 2night to pickup some washer fluid and asked a service guy about Lexus cars. He said that they do service Lexus cars. I went to Toyota for my 30K service and was pleased with the service and atmosphere. I was wondering if I should consider bringing my GS for certain work. at Pep Boys. How does Pep Boys stack up? Any Lexus owners who had work done on their cars by PB?

Their main focus on making money is selling parts....mechanical work is basically extra income for them. I'd stay away....but that's just my 2 cents

If you take your car at Pepboys for service, you might as well make their reception area your new living room They will screw up your car and you will be there everyday to figure out what went wrong.. DON'T TAKE IT THERE FOR SERVICE If you want less expensive and reputable service and don't want to pay Lexus dealership money, then take your car to a Toyota dealer.

The last time I took my gs4 to the Toyota dealership they charged me 20 bucks for an oil change (preferred customer discount??) it's usually 28 bucks, and they gave me a car wash w/minor detail. I couldn't have been happier.

I'm not sure how much PB charges, but that's pretty cheap. I couldn't have done it myself cheaper.

In addition to inferior workmanship, Pep Boys uses inferior parts most of the time.

As noted, use the Toyota dealer if you're not happy with the Lexus pricing.

I can think of no chain operation I would take a Lexus to.

After watching a shop like this overfill my friends car, and a dealership forget to add oil to another friend's car.... I tend to do my own oilchanges If you don't have a jack and stands, go get some and do this stuff yourself. I know it's not fun for most, but it's good exercise to get to know your car.

I actually enjoy car work, did my own engine swap/bodywork. Working on your car can be tiring, but changing the oil is quite easy.

My above examples are probably rare because any halfway decent shop can change oil (easy easy) but I still like to avoid letting other peoples hands on my car
