new V1 placement (i think it's new)
did this a looooong time ago but never shared. i used 3m duralock (locktite?) to hold it on to the rearview mirror, wired it down the headliner, a-pillar, yadda yadda yadda... and a remote display on the steering column. the reason i didn't power it from the rearview mirror is because--no matter what--i was going to have to put some wires down for the remote display.
i had considered putting the remote display inside the speedometer area and tested the fitment. it would work. it would only block like 120-160 (somwhere around there--speeds into which i have rarely ventured). anyway, where i have it now still does the trick of having it near the gauge cluster so my eyes aren't too diverted from the road to read the V1's signals.
Sorry for the picture quality--cell phone.
Attached to rearview mirror
Concealed display
And, the view from the outside (for those interested in comparing how it looks vs. the suction cup mount)

yeah, in hot weather it's necessary to take down the V1--otherwise it starts 'sinking'. but that's not difficult as the affixing 3M material is just like super-strong velcro. i would consider myself a novice in terms of installing stuff, and I think this is fairly easy.
i used to have the 8500 x50 (for about 2 days), and I'm not sure, but I think the way it's set up is that you can't do this attachment to the rearview mirror w/o blocking some of its receivers/sensors.
