Which LExus Should I Purchase
Hi everyone, I"m currently looking to purchase a used Lexus but can't decide on which model to buy. I've narrowed it down to
1. 98-02 GS400
2. 98 LS 400
3. 99 RX 300
I have 12,000 to spend and would like to get some advice. Also What are the common problems with the GS and Rx models of the years mentioned above????????

As an current and ex owner of both the LS and GS, you can't go wrong with either. The RX is a totally different vehicle - not sure why its included. Anyways, my advice is to find the cleanest, lowest mile LS or GS. Look for full service records that shows it was well maintained - timing belt etc. I would always take a car with a few more miles on it that was well maintained versus a neglected one. LS is a bigger and more plush, GS is more sporty oriented. Both are damn nice vehicles. Let us know what you get...good luck...

What are some of the features you are looking at in a car? What is important to you from your new vehicle? Performance, quality, safety, space, cargo room, mileage, etc etc.

i think it'll be easier finding a RX in your price range....finding a low mileage, well maintained GS could be difficult depending on your area. I know in New England I usually see 98-00 GS400 going in the high teens, and 01+ $25,000 and above. but they're all good cars so good luck with whatever you decide!

How tall are you? I am 6'3" and did not have enough headroom in the earlier LS models.
If the price were the same for three equal cars (which is probably not going to be the case), I would choose the GS. I say this because I had until 3 weeks ago and RX and a GS (as well as an SC) and back to back I could not stand to drive the RX after getting the GS. The RX suddenly felt like it was on bouncing along on stilts and had weak brakes, even though it only had 40,000 miles on it. The GS seems more solid, plus I bet long term a rear wheel drive car would have fewer major issues with its drivetrain. But, then again, I sure could fit a lot of stuff in the RX and it was nice to be able to see over most of the cars ahead of me on the road in order to know which lane to be in at the right time while at speed.
