a/c question?

a/c question?
just typed a long history of my situation and then my system crashes .
so am just going to ask my questions straight up.
is it really neccesary to change the reciever/dryer when replacing the condenser.
and if my a/c turns on but does not go cold does it at least mean the compressor is functional?
really appreciate any input

To answer your question, Yes it is a good idea so you can get your a/c to work at optimum efficiency. Reason being is that there is desiccant inside the reciever/dryer that filters not only impurities but also what ever moisture is in the system. The desiccant can only hold so much moisture. And when the system is opened up, such as replacing components like the condenser, you introduce more air into the system. And along with all that air is water vapor(moisture).
On the compressor, you would need to hook up a set of a/c guages to figure out if it is still working or not. Basically, there should be a big difference in pressure between the High Side and the Low Side. If the compressor comes on and the pressures are equal, then the compressor is no good.
Sorry for the long boring explanation.

Btw, how is the HID project coming along?

hey
no, receiver/dryer was not replaced cos like i said it would take the dealer 3-5days and i did not pass an opportunity to save almost $650(having fall classes to pay for and all that )
but is the reciever /dryer hard to replace and since the a/c is running cold is there any need to replace it?
am sure this info will be useful to others also.

... am not sure. But the swap was done by techs at a toyota dealership and they did not seem to have any problems with anything. wouldn't they have advised if the dryer was to be swapped? or maybe the condenser i provided already had the dryer attached to it . not sure...
what do u think?

hey.......
......that cost is outrageous.
i bought a used condenser from a fellow CL member taken from his GS400 and the Toyota dealer charged $410 CANADIAN to install and recharge the system.
i did not replcae the drier.
