does anyone know if the pioneer radio from an 01 gs3 would work in a 99 gs4? based on pics it looks like the two units are pretty close, but the 3 buttons on the right are different.

 

Are you certain you're not comparing a Nakamichi from the 99 with a Pioneer HU from the 2003?

Can you link the pictures you're comparing?

 

can't link the pics at the moment, they are both pioneer. the buttons on the
01 say "RDS", "TRAF" and type "TYPE". forgot what they say on the gs4 but it's not the same.

 

IF you are comparing stock 99 GS 4 systems to stock 01 GS 300 systems, keep your system. It had more wattage compared to the newer one.
Having a GS 400 and now GS 430, while both stock systems to me were barely average, the newer GS 430 system is worse than the older 400 system. I think the newer one only pushes like 96 watts.

Your best bet is to change out the speakers for some much better ones and go from there.

Right the systems are different. The 01 system has features you have stated the 98-00 system do not have. For instance the 01+ system displays the song and title and artist......

 

yeah you're right the stock system is weak...the lcd is faded on my stock system so i was hoping for a quick fix because i really don't have the time to wire up a new aftermarket head unit/speakers. guess i'll just have to leave it be for a while.

 

Damn, I'll have to look but there isa guy in Lawrenville that sells good reconditioned ones or fixes the lights for a good price. I believe Hennessy Lexus of Gwinnett uses him.
