Default Scratching / Rubbing Metal noise on the Left Rear wheel

Hey Guys,

I wasn't sure where to post this, so mods if this belongs in another section please move it.

I just started having this noise on the left rear wheel. It sounds like metal to metal contact. I checked the dust shield as well as anything that could have been rubbing on the rotor. I found nothing.

The noise only happens when you turn the wheel to the right making a turn or adjusting the car to maintain a straight line. I went bananas looking for the problem and couldn't find it. Any suggestions? I thought it had something to do with the steering rack, but the noise is coming from the rear not the front.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Fernando

Low probability but check the parking brake. I had a problem that came from there because a small part broke.

Thanks, I'll have to give that a try. Unfortunately, I have to wait until the rain stops here in RI.

I had a similar sound and it ended up being something scraping inside/against the rotor, it took my mechanic about 15 minutes to fix it

I'm hoping it is only something small like that. I'll have to pull the rotor off tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the suggestions.

had the same problem after getting new rotors/pads. Dust shield was rubbing and made noise, had it bent back a little and problem solved.

That was my first idea about the noise. I didn't see anything rubbing on the dust shield. Unfortunately, it has been raining for 2 days now and I don't have a garage. I'll have to wait until the next nice day to check again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue.

The rubbing is not visible from what I remember, only slight bending should cure the problem. Happened on the rear passenger side on my car.

I'll defintely have to tear down the entire brake setup in the rear to check on it.

Remove the rotor and check the inner hub. Could be the emergency brake shoes rubbing the inside of the rotor. Are your rotors aftermarket?

Common problem for rear aftermarket rotors. Ok then it could be the two things. The shoes rubbing inner hub, or the back plate where the rotor rests(not the sheild). You may have to have the back plate sanded down some with a grinder/sander for clearance. I think it is the latter. Have a shop sand the backing down some and the problem should be gone

Thanks man. I appreciate the suggestions and help. Hopefully I can take a look at this tonight. The rain has been crazy in RI. It hasn't stopped long enough for me to take a look at it.
