The Lexus GS

Good question. I tend to think it's the 2nd to 3rd since the 3rd required a total redesign on everything in the GS (ext/int, engine, wheelbase, etc.) I believe the 1st and 2nd gen GS300 still retain the inline 6-cyl engine.

2nd to 3rd
I agree 2nd to 3rd. Definitely complete redesign for the exterior.. the interior had alot of the same cues as the 2nd gen just upgraded.
As far as the engine the GS 430 engine is the same that was in the 2nd gen 2001-2005.. So no change there and we agree the GS300 has the same engine as well.. So changes were mostly cosmetic.

Actually, the 3.0L used in the 3rd Gen is the V6 3GR-FSE, while the 2nd gen uses the inline-6 2JZ-GE.
