I dont want to dig up old dirt or start any new drama, but Im looking into the whole Steering ECU debate. I did a bunch of searches and all I seemed to find was more ?'s. One question was if the newer GS's came with it stock. So I did some searching. There are three different part #'s for the Steering ECUs in the 2nd gen GSs. Both GSs (3&4) from 09/97 - 01/02 use 89650-30570. Both GSs (3&4) from 01/02 and on use 89650-30610. And then they have one for a Special Edition (USA) from 02/02 - 07/02 only for the 300, 89650-30600. Im prety sure the last one was on the 02 sport design because the sport design was only available as a 300, it was in 02, and it would be the "Special Edition (USA)". Maybe that was the car that came with it from stock. Which does mean it is available and being that the sport design has a better "Sport" suspension, I would guess that it also came with an improved ECU. Just a thought backed by some research. If someone has a Sportdesign and wants to swap ecus with a budy, you could check it out. Again Im sorry if this has been beat to death but I didnt see any definite answers, and this is at least a suggestion.

By what I understand the l-tuned ecu was discontinued and you can no longer get them, but the 01+ gs came factory with it. My question is can you get a 01+ ecu and put it in a 98-2000 gs and get the same result or will it even work? Im just as confused as some on this issue, so dont take me as fact.

I read that the L-Tuned ECU was discontinued as well. Some say the ECU came stock in later GSs. Some say they swapped one in a later model anyway and felt a difference, & others said it made no difference. I checked the dealer network and there seem to be a couple L-Tuned ECUs floating around out there. Im just trying to see if the Sportdesign GS was the later model GS that came with it from stock. I just dont know if its worth hunting down and finding for it not to do a damn thing like some say.
