ls430 vs gs300 in gas mileage?
hey guys, i am in need of a new car and i suggested the ls430 to my dad as an option but he doesn't take it because he believes the v8 in the ls430 will drink up much more gas than my current gs300. I currently have a 1998 gs300 and am wondering if I will lose any gas mileage going up to the newer ls430. Are there any good competitors to the GS within the 20 - 30k range? I am looking into the newer 5 series but its hard to find one in that range and am unsure about BMW's reliability. I am going to drive for 3 hours from austin to houston in one period so I need a reliable car. Thank you guys

From what i understand the GS4 vs. GS3 gas mileage difference is negligible (1mgp+ for V8). the GS4 is supposed to run at higher compression and more efficiently than the GS3. I have a GS400 and get about 19.5 mpg. I think the GS430 does a bit better than the GS400.
Personally, I like the torque of a larger engine with more power in the lower RPMs for city driving.

the 400/430 drivetrain on the lexus (sc430, gs400/430, ls430), they are gas saving. but the 300 i6 engine on lexus are eating gas like crazy since it's a high rev performance engine
the 300 on the gs is rated 18/24. the 400/430 is around 18/23 i believe
tell your dad not to have the feeling that v8 has to eat more gas. that's been proven not true since long time ago

My Fuel Log averages 18.76MPG on city driving ,AC on at all times, average cruising speed 45MPH on a 2003 GS300 with 35K miles on the clock.
(see Fuel Log ).
The LS 430 will be around that number on city. Also consider weight.
LS Weight: 3,945 lbs.
GS Weight: 3,649 lbs.
I think the numbers for both cars are excellent.
On a GS300 peak HP and torque
- Horsepower at rpm 220 hp @ 5,800
- Torque at rpm 220 lb-ft @ 3,800
on a LS430 peak HP and torque
- Horsepower at rpm 290 hp @ 5,600
- Torque at rpm 320 lb-ft @ 3,400
For the long drive i will get the LS,my 0,02.
Good Luck
