Default Looking to buy GS400

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I've been in the market to buy a 98-02 GS 400. There is one locally at a Honda dealer. It is a 99 with 68k on there. They want 18,800 and I want to pay 15,000. Am I dreaming or is that possible for this car. They keep saying wholesale is at 18k blah blah blah. Any suggestions on where/how to get the best deal? Second, how does everyone else like there car. Should there be anything I need to know about before I purchase this beautiful machine.

Thats pretty good for 68k miles. I found a GS4 with 72k+ miles for $17k-ish. But it wasnt black...so...too bad.

Man, I'm not inclined to think that they'll sell for that price. They still have to make a margin on the vehicle. You might be able to get it in the 16K range if it were an invidual, but dealers have costs associated with procurement/selling of cars. My two cents is that if you could get it for 17 you'd be doing pretty well for such a low mileage car.

If they are 18800 don't pay no more than 90% of what they are asking for a used car so most i would pay is 16920.

sounds good. Now, when we look for appraisal sites for cars, why is KBB higher than others? I hear that KBB is about 2-3k over the acutal cost. How reliable is edmonds.com?

yes I checked auto trader. I just need a base line of how much i want off of the sticker price. Also, I can't decide if I wanna go for higher mileage and lower price or lower mileage and higher price. Any insights?

I alway's like to buy a used car from a private owner. You can tell a lot from the seller, like how well they took care of the car, service records and how they treated it. From a dealer you never meet the previous owner, therefore you can only tell by what the dealer say's. It took me like 3 months to find my gs4, but it was well worth the wait, the guy i bought it from was more **** than me with detailing (if possible) and had every service record. Also he took the car to the dealer for ANY issue, no matter what the cost. I bought it 2 years ago for 14,500 with 109,000 miles. It has every option but heated seats and navi. Buying from him gave me more of a sense of how the car was treated. Good luck and don't rush if you don't have to.
welcome to club lexus by the way.......lol

very good point, I dont need the car, I just want it lol. Its at 65k, 1999, no navi but everything else, body, interior, and engine is flawless. Sticker price was 18,998, I got them down to $17800 but I think I can get it down to 17000-17500, what do you think? I really want it because of the condition but at the same time I've only been in the market for about a week now.

If you don't really need it, then wait for the deal that better suit's you. I know how u feel wanting that car but don't let the dealer see that. Offer him a final price, hand him your phone number and tell him to call you if he can comply. If not, then it wasn't meant to be. All in all I think that that is a fair price for that car with such low miles. See if you can get some service records from the lexus dealer by taking down the vin number. If all service was done, that would save u some money in the long run.

I'd wait till you get it @ a price you're happy with...otherwise, you may have buyers remorse...and that's poo.
