Last minute pinging advice?
I have a 98 GS400 that I love with 89xxxk going in tomorrow to get the timing belt done. It pings even on 93 octane. I am worried about it. Dealer suggested new plugs. Is there any chance that this is why it is pinging? Prior owner changed the plugs himself with iridium's at 35k and I am worried that he put in the wrong plugs or gapped them wrong. Before I spend $200 on an OEM plug job please advise (and yes, I know I could do the plugs for less myself). Thoughts?
Thanks

Pull a plug from each cylinder bank and see what there is to see.

I had some engine pinging, and was advised to clear out the MAF sensor with brake cleaner. I did that, along with cleaning the filter on my K&N intake, and also made sure that I sealed where the MAF sensor connected to the intake (to ensure there was no other air getting that would throw off my MAF sensor). Sure enough, after doing all of that, no engine pinging since.
Not sure if that helps, but it definitely help in my situation. Good luck.
