Wet under drivers side mat.

Wet under drivers side mat.
I was cleaning out my car today.
And I pulled up the drivers side mat and saw that it was damp.
I tried lifting up the carpet but didnt want to rip it out.
I stuck my hand in there pretty far but it wasnt that damp back there at all.
Anyone have any idea what this could be?
What could be causing it?
The solution?
Has anyone ever even heard of this?

Nope thats not that...its either ur condenser or evaporator that has gone bad. This thing is expensive. Have u been loosing antifreeze? If u have and dont knwo where it ahs been going, now u know. Take off moldings and remove carpet to see just how wet things are under the carpet...remember that theres alot of foam under the carpet which has been absorbing all that water, so for it to feel damp that means its pretty soaked.
I know theres a way to by pass this device by disconnecting some hoses and plugging them to each other but im not sure how to due it...only problem u wont have a heater but u will save $$$$$ large bills, cos i think u have to take off dash board....PITA.....this is ofcourse assuming is the same probelm i had in a SC400 I had

i don't know much about sc400 but if the evaporator was leaking wouldn't the passenger side be wet? he said the drivers side was wet. i used to own an 87 monte carlo with a leaky evap but it was always wet on passenger side.

I had the same thing. It seems like a ton of people has or had this problem. I believe if its your evap then you will be leaking anti freeze. You can smell antifreeze for sure. If it just water, then you may have a clogged AC drain tube. Try unclogging the tube from under the car and see if that helps! You can try blowing air into the tube to maybe some wire? That was my problem, thank goodness it wasn't the evap.

Check for missing body plugs on the chassis. There's a thread with a pic which shows them. Apparently age takes it toll and these things will fall out. May not be your problem but it's something to else to eliminate.

ok this morning I drove without my mat..a/c on full blast 4 about 40 minutes and nothing. I was at my mothers house for a about an hour yester and she has a steep incline at her home. so I am thinking that maybe its a clogged tube like someone mentioned. causing water to back fill into the car. right now my car is sitting flat for about 3 hours and nothing so far. I am really hopping its not the evap.

Wet Carpet Here are the Solutions
Carpet wet?
First you must isolate where the water is coming from. Pull back the carpet.
Is it only Passenger side, Driver side, Roof?
Problems:
1. The rubber molding is not seated correctly
+ Check the rubber around the door as well as around the door jams
2. Evaporator is leaking (A/C)
+ Could be costly (about $650 from a regular mechanic)
+ Most likely only the passenger side will be wet
+ AC will be blowing warm
+ Distinct smell from the liquid leaking out
3. Hose Leaving Evaporator box is leaking into the car or is clogged
+When you look in the engine bay you will see a black rubber hose coming out from the fire wall. This is where you can have a clog.
4. Rubber Gromets under the carpet is missing or leaking
+ When you remove the carpet you will see the 2 black rubber gromets.
+ Check to make sure they are snug in place, if not place some silicon around it.
+ Sometimes the gromet drops out (can also cause a whistling noise when you accelerate)
5.Moonroof Drain Clogged
+ Fill a cup of water and place it in the Moonroom Drain
+ It should flow out underneath behind the front tire.
+ Check if it is leaking in the car.
+ If it is use compressed air to blow the debri out of the drain.
