I once had the wrong set of lugnuts put on my old GS300 (like 4 years ago) and my wheel (brand new set of 20's..back when they were still a big deal) came flying off at about 25mph around a curve, bounced off of the jersey barrier, came back and destroyed my front fender...oh, and my rotor was dragging on the round the whole time...sparks everywhere...lol. Not funny then, but....

The balljoints actually look pretty beefy. Its the fact that over time, the bushing holding in the grease is deteriorating so all the grease gets lost. Then when 2 metals are grinding on each other it seizes up, causing the joint to snap.
