Default GS Engine Replacement

I forgot how long (in mileage) a properly maintained GS engine will last but my friend who has a '01 GS300 said that she'd keep her GS for as long as she can AND will have her son and his friends replace the engine with a used one with less miles. When that time comes, I wonder if it would be easy to find a used engine for her model year GS with decent mileage and have it replaced. It sounded interesting at first but soon I asked myself is that something that I would consider doing. Is this something people commonly do? If so I've definitely ain't heard about it.

These engines do last a long time. But by the time the engine fail on you, the car's prob so old and worthless that the price of another engine + labor will prob not be worth it.

Maybe, but i know that it can, and is done. The lexus tech that did my timing belt changed an engine in a GS once, and converted his own GS300 to manual transmission. It is all doable.

When I have the money I will do an engine transplant and put in the new 4.6 liter, 8-speed engine from the LS in my car.
