Personally I say S T A Y A W A Y from a salvage title car. I had a friend buy a salvage M3 2002 about 2 years ago, got it for 13k after half the rear end was smashed. It was fixed by Caliber Collision and they did an excellent job, car handles fine drives fine looks fine. But there is always going to be that thought in the back of your head knowing that your car is salvaged. On top of all that not ALL repair jobs are done correctly.
If you are hard pressed on getting the GS, check it in and out. Caliber Collision does a free once over on the car. Just find your local CC body shop and set up an appointment, have Lexus inspect the car too. I would offer the guy $8k and he doesn't take it walk away.
Good luck!

Insurance companies total cars for a reason. I had a salvaged car once and I cannot tell you how many problems I found and minor annoyances there were withthe car. I would stay clear and just save up a bit more to get the car you really want and deserve. Remember, there will always be other great deals. If you miss one or two just be patient and more will come along.
