Rattle from my dashboard/windshield
Lately, I have been noticing an annoying rattle that comes from the dashboard/windshield area of my 2003 Lexus GS300. The rattle is not consistent and it seems to occur randomly. Anyone experience this before?

Interesting that I would come across your post after I just had the dealership here in Austin take a look at my "mysterious rattle."
My service writer said that the tech was able to locate my rattle on a test drive and that it is on the driver's side on the front dash, not the windshield like I had suspected. It was going to cost $260 to have fixed which involved almost all labor. He said it's due to some sound deadening material needing to be reinstalled and to make sure everything is tightened down. I decided to hold off for now as I am coming up on my 60k mile servicing next time and figure I might as well let them fix all my little nuisances at that time while the car is in for a major servicing.

Should this be covered by the CPO warranty or the manufacturer's warranty? My manufacturer's warranty runs out in a couple of weeks. If the CPO covers it, then I'll just wait until my next service. However, if the CPO doesn't but the manufacturer's does, then I'll need to make the trip to Houston or Austin to have Lexus fix it soon.

It could be the cowl cover (the black plastic strip that is under the wipers that runs across the windshield.) I believe I have isolated my noise to this area. My noise only happens when it is colder outside and when the car body flexes - like hitting bump or pot-hole with one of the front tires. I think it is the adhesive under there that attaches it to the window giving way when there is flex. Sounds like baloons rubbing together? I am not sure how to fix this though, maybe bring it to a car glass place to re-adhere the cowl cover? Any suggestions/comments would be helpful.

My rattle doesn't seem to be influenced by the weather, but it is more prevalent when I drive over a bump. I will have it checked out sometime this week or next.
