need info/instructions on how to swap gs headlights
i have a 99 gs with a leaking headlight w/hid. i am looking at either a new or used bare lens and housing from either the dealership or used here. i was told i would need to transfer the bulbs and ballasts over... is it really that simple? do i have to break anything apart? advice needed...

I think its pretty simple, the ballast is on the under side of the headlight, and it has a small rectangular cover hiding it. I think the ignitor is built into the ballast. (I could be mistaken) Bulbs are a snap. you shouldnt have to break apart anything. I have not messed with the GS headlights very much, but from all the pics and threads, I believe everything is pretty self explanatory.
one of the hardest things I think is removing the headlights themselves, I am pretty sure you have to remove the front bumper, once you have the headlights out, swapping everything should be a snap. Make sure not to touch any glass part of the bulbs with your bare hands tho.
Anyone that has actually gone thru this, that can give some more detailed insight?

I've taken my bumper out so many times that I can probably do it in 5 minutes now. LOL!

No. The ballast is mounted under the headlight. Its on the headlight, but you do NOT need to take apart the actual headlight. Remove bumper, disconnect the wiring and then the headlight itself. Once you have taken out the headlight, the ballast is held onto the headlight housing by (3) 8mm screws.

i just called my dealer and their parts computer is down, but he recalls that the part numbers change from 2000-up because of the ballast location. for people who need to know... the 2000-up 2G gs ballast part number is 85967-30031 and it's almost $600 per side
thanks for the info everyone... it's starting to look not so simple anymore

define leaking. Is it standing water in there? or just moisture? If it's moisture some people have had luck drying them out with a hair dryer or resealing them and it never came back. Mine had a problem with moisture on both sides, I dried them out with a hair dryer on two seperate occasions and haven't had a problem since, it's rained pretty hard a couple of times and I've washed my car since then and it hasn't returned yet.
