There is a different color weave that they use in order to make it.

I've seen color matched CF hoods on SRT-4's and they look *ok*, but then again those were a hell of a lot cheaper than most lexus parts.

Ok, I just called him. He said it most likely is an overlay. Bad quality. He mentioned that he worked on an 600hp aristo the other month and saw that his hood was the silver carbon...but noticed a lot of iodized sections of the hood. So he doesnt recommend then to me. But he did mention that it looked really nice though..but not worth the $$$$

I figured it was an overlay by looking at the bumpers when they were half oem and half silver cf.

Not really feeling the look of this silver CF, not sure if its because it is covering such a large area or what. My suggestion would be to get a "real" cf hood and have them spray a light coat of silver over it, so the CF still shows through a bit. But as others have mentioned it does look like an overlay

Yes, it is an overlay. These guy's wraped a whole civic in some kind of redish/maroon color and by the pic's it looked hott. I don't know how it looks in person though. Let me dig up some more info and post it up.

There are different ways to weave and construct the carbon fiber. Basically they have have a mold and the carbon fiber reflects the molds shape.

The Porsche Carerra GT uses 4 different carbon fiber weaves!

now im not even sure if CF is worth it anymore with CF in super high demand and low supply for the consumers

Boeing and Airbus are buying up all the CF stuff from the suppliers... CF prices are shooting up

i just dont think its worth it at this price range nowadays

its good to know that this is just an overlay, i was hoping that it was so i dont have to buy it
lol

IMO, a true car enthusiast would buy CF but paint only a few layers of body colour to make it match the rest of the car
plain black CF on diff colour cars is just a bit too ricey IMHO

The "silver carbon fiber" is called Texalium. I think its derived from nickel or some ****. Purely cosmetic and doesn't share the strength or weight advantages of real carbon. Basically its a heavier, prettier fiberglass.

yeah, its aluminized Fiberglass.

Its actually harder (but cheaper) to work with than the usual 5.7oz Carbon fabric typically used in the 'Tuner scene'. Its really stiff, which is why you can see wrinkles in their hoods. The material wasnt stored (or layed) properly.
