removing spoiler??
Hey guys I'm thinking about buying a 1998 Lexus GS300 in the next few days. However the only thing I don't like about a particular car I found is the rear spoiler. Can this be removed without leaving any permanent marks/holes? Has anyone removed one before?

The OEM spoiler is attached using bolts, rivets and held down with double stick tape.
Besides all the mess from the tape, there will remain three holes on the right and four holes on the left, that will need to be plugged and painted over.
This job is not for the faint of heart and some DIYers will probably not attempt it.

iono about a 98 gs300
But i took the spoiler off my 2000 gs400 and i was simple. but left 5 holds. 4 for bolts and one for the wire to run into the trunk. had to cut the wire..(note: becareful when you cut the wire.. the wire might retract into the wing. but can be taken out.. just more work.) no double sided tape. wing came off very easy.
from my knoweldge the wings were added on at the dealerships and maybe different dealerships have different methods of installing it.
but swap the trunk is probably the easiest. (as long as you dont care about the vin # matching.)

You must not have a factory installed spoiler. Two of the holes would actually be square holes to allow for the installation of the plastic plug inserts. Also the lack of rivets and double stick tape would also indicate a non-OEM spoiler.
Here's a pic of the OEM bottom showing one bolt hole, one rivet hole, one square plastic plug and the wiring harness cable.

I OEM spoiler is mount to the trunk via 2 brackets on etheir side of the trunk lid. The brackets themselves are riveted (2 each side) to the trunk but the spoiler is screwed to the brackets. There will be 5 holes the 5th hole is for the wiring for the LED brake light.
Depending on what color your car is it may cost a pretty penny to repair..

Pic of the holes on the rear trunk.
It actually half way done to cover those holes but I really don't like to do a bodywork on my car then I decided to purchase used non-spoiler trunk.
