Cool HID questions and answers

My car is GS 300 98 ~50k. This car has seen some roads with a previous owner.
My driving lights have rock chips all over, badly scratched. I have never seen new Lexus HIDs in action at night. But mine look not really bright especially if you compare it to the HID on Acura standing next to you. Acura?s ones point lower on the road than Lexus ones though.
Do HID bulbs age and loose brightness? How to polish the plastic headlights to look like new if this is the problem?

Some people were asking about ?How does HID auto-leveling works??
That?s what I have red in Russian auto press:
There are no lasers or sensors pointing on the road. There are two sensors in front and on the back of the Lexus to get the information about how horizontal the car is at the current moment. According to this information the direction/angle of lights gets calculated. No sci-fi staff

I want to get the driving bulbs and the high beam ones to mutch HID. Where can I get the full package of those that match my HIDs and don?t burn wires?

Thank You Lex people

Default Can help with polishing the plastic

GS300.ru – Can’t help with the lighting issue but I have had some experience with polishing the light covers.

My GS4 also had a number of scratches and rock dings on the plastic light covers, they were dull and not clear and shiny. I checked the forum and found a couple of threads covering polishing the plastic but was unable to find either of the 2 products mentioned at PeP Boys, Autozone, WalMart, or O’Reilleys. So, I tried the 2 products they did have: Blue Magic Plastic and Plexiglas Cleaner and KIT Scratch Out. Both worked ok. Being a Zaino fanatic, I also ordered Zaino’s Z14 Plastic-Magic. The Zaino product was superior (why doesn’t that surprise me?). I had already got the plastic looking somewhat better before I received the Zaino product – but the Zaino was CLEARLY (pun intended) better. Incidentally, I used a buffer for the majority of the lens and hand-polished the edges (to save buffer wear on nearby paint). Completely hand-polishing (no mechanical assistance) takes time and a lot of elbow grease! Overall, it’s worth the effort, though.

My .17 worth (what’s left after a $1.00 investment).

HIDs on GS have a blue tint and are not instant on .. take about a sec to be fully bright. This might be due to auto-leveling working out the right spot.

During 98, HID's were an option and not standard.

Gravity sensors are used to auto level the HID.
