The most common problem with the higher mileage V8 GS's will be the starter. For all high mileage GS's it would be the ball joints, and control arm bushings that need to be replaced. Those are the most common/major issues that I know off the top of my head. Other than that, as long as you keep up with proper maintenance the GS should last you a long time.

Make sure he has the timing belt and water pump service done at 90k miles. If not, ask him to knock some money off the selling price because that service is close to $1000.

Honestly with the mileage, and your car being paid off; just keep the Bimmer and drive it until it dies, or until it's financially killing you. You still have ALOT of life left on that car, especially if you keep it up on maintenance. I love my GS, but I don't think theres that signifigant of a difference from the Bimmer to the 430 to sarifice 30k miles, especially since your's is 100% paid off.

Best bet is to scan the Autotrader and Cars.com to see what comparable cars are selling for and negotiate from there.
It will be good to have you on board.

Not a significant difference between the BMW inilne 6 motor vs the V8 of the gS? Heck yeah there's a BIG difference!!!

The GS300 I have has a motor about similar in terms of power output to the BMW 530i and I think my car is pretty slow. Now, the GS430....that's got quite a bit of pep in it

Edit: However for more economical/reasonable reasons keep the BMW. It's still a great car and should last you for a little while. However, if the speed is not enough...go for the V8 of the GS. I know I would

Your 530i has a 5spd, low miles, better handling, and almost paid off.
