The "risk of getting pulled over" depends on alot of things. Usually cops will use the window tint as an excuse to pull you over because you were probably being stupid in a no-stupid zone.

If window tint is the only mod on your car, and you're driving 35 mph in a 35 mph zone on a sunday afternoon thru the burbs on your way to church, chances are you're not going to get pulled over!

But if you're 19 and out on a Friday night mashing the gas pedal with some homies in the back of your GS looking for a good time, you're a lovely candidate for getting a tint ticket.

Long story short, I wouldn't worry about the tint being your downfall. Act mature on public roads and you'll be fine.

As for percentage, it depends on your interior. If you have a beige or gray interior, I'd say go as low as 15-25% and it'll be very classy and accomplish the task. If you have a black interior... you may want to go up to like a 35-50% tint and still get the same results. This is based on my personal preference: tint being dark enough you can see the outline of the driver's head, but you can't see my face

What color is the car? I dont like tint on some colors, thats why I havent tinted yet even though its hot over here in Houston.

I'm thinking 50% on the front windows and 35% on the back windows/windshield. Or maybe even 50% all the way around but that seems pretty light to me. But yeah, thanks for the replies guys.

 

They can pull you over for any tint in NJ. Also, you will not pass NJ inspection with your front windows tinted. Unless you know somebody who can pass you.

 

Have you seen the tints on the new Mercedes Benz cars? If you like the look, seek heat & UV protection, no attention from law enforcement, then look into Huper Optik tint film. The black tint films are good for show only & serve no other purpose but to generate revenue for the city via tint tickets.

 

I live in CA where no amount of tint is legal. I have 35 on the doors, 20 on the rear windshield and 50 on the front windshield. The difference it makes is amazing. If you are thinking about 50, don't do it. I personally don't like the look of different shades on different doors. I think a medium on all 4 doors, and something dark on the back looks the best.

Tint it and do it all over. I don't think a car with just the rear windows is good enough. And oh yeah, I have good vision and all but I decided not to do the windshield.

im assuming you mean window tint. I'd keep it until you get hassled like i did. Gotta get mine removed next week. I'll probably get em redone once the winter passes.

I'd say keep it unless you're getting seriously hassled by the law like jcat said. On a side note, no offense to the OP, people calling it "tints" has always bugged me, how did that get started?
