Rattles disappear in the rain?
It's been raining all day here in Chicago, and I have an observation. My car is not a rattle-box by any means, but it does have it shares of clicks and squeeks. Has anyone else noticed that the rattles seem to go away when it's raining out? I'm thinking the rattles might have something to do with the fact that the weather-stripping is dried out, and when it rains, obviously, it gets wet. Anyone?

I definitely thought about that as a possibility, but I have excellent hearing, so I don't think that's the case. Also, it's not just while it's raining when the rattles go away, but it's right after the rain has ended as well.

I haven't noticed any difference in the rain, but maybe things are swelling & tightening up from the humidity and that's why it gets quieter.
my interior gets quieter after it's been driven for a little while. first thing in the morning I have a few rattles and clicks too.

i made the same assumption someone mentioned above... the sound of rain/water drowns out all of my squeaks/rattles (which get significantly worse when it's cold outside )...

I notice the most rattles in the cold too. During the summer when its 90 degrees the only rattle that i have is the sunroof making a clicking sound this is a constant thing it doesn't matter the condition outside. Does anyone know how to fix this?

if you search under "sunroof rattle fix" or something close to that, you will find some threads discussing the use of spacers for the sunroof shade that is supposed to stop that noise. unfortunately i have the same problem but the spacers did not stop it, but it did work for many others here....

There are two different moonroof rattles. There is the rattle caused by the sunshade, which the last poster is referring to, and then there is the popping/clicking noise that it made by the black plastic garnishes that line the underside of the moonroof. The popping/clicking noise seems to be caused by temperature differential (i.e., on really hot days when you have the a/c on or on really cold days when you have the heat on).

Yep, there is something you can do, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. There is a TSB on this issue. It involves taking off the black pieces, placing tape and felt in certain areas, and then putting it all back together. If you do a little searching, you will find a copy of the TSB posted in a thread started by SeattleGS400 (who I believe has long since left CL). Personally, if I were you, I would just live with it because those black pieces are a pain in the a$$ to get off, and there is a good chance that you will break one or more of the clips holding them in place. If you do try it, let us know how it works out.
