Default Aftermarket parts & smog in Cal.

Hey guys just had a few questions about your experience with Smog in California. The last legal smog I have done was when I bought my GS. I know most of the members here have modded cars so trying to draw on your experiences for potential upgrade options for my car. I have a GS400 and want to do intake, headers, and exhaust. SRT intake, Apexi world exhaust, and S & S headers. I know that at different places there will be different experiences with the smog techs. I also plain to keep my CATs.

Thanks for your input. Josh

Most places will look at your SRT intake and will instantly point it out as an illegal mod. If you must, put back your stock intake during the day of the smog check. The header you might get away with since its harder to distinguish the difference between OEM and aftermarket, unless you definitely know its aftermarket. I'm guessing the person who inspects it wont even look twice.

That's about it as far as mods go, aside from force induciton.

k&N makes cali legal intake. another member had srt + headers, said car ran better without the srt because of the piggy back computer they use. headers are really hard to see with engine cover, so all mods you mention are ok. just intake might be an issue.

I have failed cars with intakes without CARB stickers. Just swap back the OEM one and your car should pass the visual inspection with ease.

On the SRT intake, you have the piggy back chip installed on the ECU. To put the OEM intake box it would require removal of it, which sounds like a PITA.

Thanks for the input guys, so should I stay away from the SRT intake. My friend has it on his IS300 and what a difference it makes on that car.

there is nothing wrong with the srt intake, but another member did post that his car with headers runs harder after removing the srt intake.
