Radio code

Can someone tell me if I have to get a key code from the radio on my 2000 GS300 when I replace the battery? A friend told me to find out before I disconnect the battery

bill,
I have changed my 99 radio to the stock 01 radio. I have unplugged each many many times during install. Neither one of them require a code when powered up again.
