I'm about to buy a GS400 but it doesn't have HID and yellow fogs. It has the regular halogen ones. Was it an option or was it standard? I'm a bit worried about it since I thought every single GS400 has them.

all 01-05 GS430 has HID standard. Every other year/model has them optional.

1998 GS 400 was the only year HIDs were not standard.
1999-2005 GS 400s/430s have HIDs standard WITH yellow fogs.
IS 300s 2001-2005 have HIDs standard with yellow fogs.
ES 300s 1992-2004 have halogens with yellow fogs.

actually 99 and 00 hid was not standard on the gs400, but pretty all cars you get they come with hid. starting from 01 it becomes part of the standard feature list

Also not all ES3 came with yellow fogs. From 97-on they came with clear fogs. They did away with them when they remodeled it after the 96 model year.

If you can find A GS4 with HID its worth it. The light output is so great i wouldn't have any other light. If you get the regular Halogen lights you may spend more money buying HID's to swap out. Check the lights before you buy..

I didn't know i had HID untill after i bought my GS.. i got lucky i guess..

GL bro..

My 98 GS3 has the combo but I'm thinking about changing the Yellow fogs IMO I think they're kinda of ugly.

Base GS, in '98 did not have Hid and had clear (white) fog lamps.

If you opted for any premium upgrade, you would get amber fogs.

fog lamps have a wider spread and are angled low, to prevent reflection from fog into driver's eyes. Best pentration/human_eye_responce was determied to be amber light (after eliminating the reserved colors like red, green and blue)

in my opinion its better to have the non factory hid light, that way you can upgrade to a HID Conversion Kit which is a lot brighter as you can choose the brightness you want.

Same here! Before I purchased my car, I test drove it and checked it out in the day time. I looked under to hood and even asked the salesperson if it had HID's and he said no. So I knew HID's were going to be my first mod because I knew they were a must have. By the time my deal was finalized it was getting dark so I turned on my lights about 2 minutes after I left the dealership... that's when I saw the beautiful pop you get from HID's when they are first turned on, and then I saw the reflections of the headlights auto leveling from someones back bumper... man that was a great feeling!

absolutely the worst idea to get "brighter" setup

1) factory hid has the best setup to reflect all usable light to the road
2) non-hid housing is different from hid housing in terms of reflection optics
3) hid kits does not have the metal shield on the d2r bulb in most cases which prevent glare on the road
4) oem hid is already the "brightest" you can get. any color temperature higher are all dimmer. that's physics
5) you "think" hid kits are brighter coz' lights are going everywhere
