Default Does anyone know how to replace this seat belt plastic garnish thingy?

Hey guys. There's a plastic garnish that holds the base of the driver's side seatbelt in place, and somehow I managed to break it. It's strange because it's not the kind of thing that you would think would break. Maybe it was the cold weather up here in Chicago. I really don't know. Anyway, I'm sure the plastic garnish is relatively inexpensive, but does anyone have any idea as to how to gain access to an open end of the seatbelt so I can slide a new plastic garnish over it?

Mine is like that too. My car is down the street and I'm too lazy to go look whether that plastic thing is fastened to the belt. If not, I don't see why you can't just superglue it back. It would be cheaper and more efficient than buying a new one. It used to bother me and I was going to fix it, but I have other problems with the car right now.

Mine broke off too several months ago. I just glued it back... its not the most elegant solution, but it works.. oh well.

I superglued it and never looked back!

Much stronger/better job than those fiddly clips. Make sure you clean all sides before you apply a THIN smear of glue. (Remember less is more when it comes to superglue)

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. I'll probably use super glue for the short term, but ultimately, I'll want to replace it. Where's the easiest place to gain access to an end of the seatbelt, next to the seat or in the pillar between the front and rear doors? Does anyone know? Are there safety issues involved if you detach the seat belt and reattach it? Lemme know what you think.

superglue is hard, and non-flexible when it dries. If u use something flexible ( like urethane, window urethane that is ) u will never have to turn back. Basically, use something that is more rubberly, If that's even a word.

For those of you who used superglue, did you apply it to the underside of plastic piece or to the perimeter of the opening on the base? I'm thinking it would be cleaner to apply the glue directly to the base.

By the way, I can't believe how many people have this issue. I've never seen any threads about it.

Thanks for taking the time to look that up Chuck. For what it's worth, I don't even see that little plastic piece identified anywhere on the diagram.

EDIT -- Now I see it. I thought it was the buckle. It's actually part of the seat belt assembly.

I went to the dealer with this problem to get a new piece. They told me the entire seatbelt assembly would have to be replaced for a whopping price of $200 something. DOnt remember the exact price.

Well, then, let's see. Superglue at $2 versus new belt at $200. It's a close call, but I think I'll go with the glue. Unbelievable.
