Thanks to all who took the time to reply to my posting. I got a bit emotional tonight as the new owner pulled her out of my garage. I reached out and patted the rear quarter panel and quietly told her goodbye for the last time. The new driver, all of 20 years old, didn't even realize he could just set the headlights on "auto" and reversed out of my driveway with just the running lights on. Sigh.
He left his 1992 Mazda Miata parked in front of the house to later return for. I just hope he appreciates having such a car at age 20 - I'm 33; when I was 20 I had a beat up 1985 Cavalier. The car prior to my 98 GS was a 1991 Toyota Celica - I remember being so nervous paying $6100 for a car back in 1998. With some luck and hard work, I was able to finally afford the GS and showed it off to everyone. It was one of the most surreal times in my life as my poor mother was about to have major surgery to try to stop her cancer from spreading, and here I was out buying a fancy luxury car. I remember calling her on the way back from Pittsburg and asking her if it was ok that I bought the car. Mom, being the greatest person on this planet ever, of course said "Honey, I want you to be happy. You deserve it!" We grew up pretty poor but with lots of love, and I thank GOD every day to be as fortunate as I am even though my Mom isn't around.
I know this is getting emotional, but I wrote a little tribute to her on the cancer website she visited not too long before the end.

I'd give anything to have her back. I met my wife exactly 2 weeks after my Mom's funeral. She never got to see my son or meet my wife (Joy) but every day I know she's up there, watching us.
Thanks for letting me get this out.

Tomorrow morning a person I barely know is handing me a certified cashier's check and driving my precious 1998 Lexus GS300 away.
This has been the finest automobile I've ever owned; the most reliable, the most fun to drive, and I'll miss her.
In January 2002 I found her through Autotrader and took a Greyhound bus from Columbus Ohio to Pittsburg, PA just because I couldn't wait for the weekend to get her. I went through 5 hours on a bus just to drive home in luxury.
She was the last car my poor sweet mother ever rode in as I took her to the hospital where she passed away at the young age of 55 of bladder cancer.
She was the car I drove to meet my wife for the first time almost 4 years ago.
She was the car I drove to Boston in the summer of 2004 to watch the RedSox beat the Mariners in what ended up later being their first WS championship.
She took my wife and I to the furthest southern point in the continental USA; Key West.
She took my best friend and I to see Michael Jordan play vs. the Cavaliers a week before he retired.
The first car ridden in by our first son, born last July, was this Lexus.
I purchased her with 43,000 on the odometer, and she's leaving me with 105,000. Never once did I worry about her reliability. Never once did she fail me. Twice she did not start for me; both times were because I left a dome light on over the weekend. She was just as fun to drive yesterday as she was 5 years ago.
I bought a 2004 LS430 last month, and this new one has some big shoes to fill.
Goodbye, old girl. You will be missed.
