Default Check engine and VSC lights on

I have a 1998 GS 400 with 113,000 miles on it which I recently purchased. The car worked fine the last time I drove it. When I started the car today, the check engine, VSC light and the VSC off lights are all lit. The car rolled forward but had no power. I had to move the shift lever back and forth before the car went into to reverse. Has any experienced this or know what is wrong with the car?

Read any codes present, and reset if none are there. Use a scanner, or remove the B fuse in the fuse box near the battery and wait for 20 minutes or so. Re-install fuse. Then drive again. If the code comes back, I am pretty sure you have a problem in your TPS circuit.

Keep in touch! GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the speedy reply!!! The lights went of the next day, after I restarted the car and moved it back and forth couple of times. I drove the car around the block and they are still off. I may need to wait for the next occurrence to follow your advice. I do not have a scanner to read the codes. Is there one that you recommend and where can I get it from? If the lights stay off do you thinks it is ok to drive the car?

Same thing happened to me at 140,000 miles. It's one of the sensors that goes bad on these cars forget the name of the sensor, but have someone scan the car. They can detect what sensor went bad.
