Default DTC: P1349 - VVT System Malfunction

After taking my car back to the body shop to check whats up with getting the system lights (CHK Engine/VSC/VSC:OFF) they cleared the code and told me to take it to Stearling Mcall Lexus Service department and that the error codes had nothing to do with my recent accident. They gave me a piece of paper with the error codes listed which were: Check Engine DTC: P1349 - VVT System Malfunction (Bank:1) and VSC DTC: Hydrolic Brake Booster Malfunction I took it to the service department there and they quoted me that it would cost acouple of hundred dollars (1-2 hundred) just to diagnose the problem. Anyone know what the problem could be and how much it MAY cost?

If you could take a second to hit the hilights of your recent accident, front end, side swipe, air bags went off, etc, might give an insight into the problem. The VVt-i cam gear is like a sealed unit-I think it's rare for it to malfunction unless it's been tampered with-taken apart, etc. Any timing problems? Bad acceleration? Strange noises coming from your engine?

The accident I was in only damaged my back bumper and back right fender above the wheel also it damaged my back suspension they had to replace that. And my back wheels were also bent so I got new rims. When I start my car I can hear a cranking noise coming from under the hood. Sounds like Ta-ta-ta-ta sometimes when I'm driving on the freeway and I'm going about 60-80mph I hear some more cranking noises. Could be just imaging things but I also notice that my car is putting out alot of RPM but I'm not going no where like it isn't hauling off. Theres no over heating problem or anything, but I changed the oil the other day and the guy said he found metal shavings in the oil. The day before I was suppose to take the car in for body repairs, it was really freezing and when I went to drive my car it said it was out of oil, so I tried to drive it to a near by Autozone to buy some oil and the car died on me after that I got a buddy of mines to drive me to get oil, I put the oil in the car and it wouldn't start so I called the Lexus towing company they gave me and they towed my car in for body repair, when I picked up my car it was drivable. 1 hour or so later 3 lights came on...

beyond my limited scope, sorry, sounds like you may have a serious problem that will require a Lexus tech to diagnose...doesn't look like there is a lot of feedback on your situation so you may have to bite the bullet and take it in for service...cost could be very high due to the labor and time it could take to diagnose and fix...good luck, let us know how it turns out...D
