update: just changed the battery and the range is back to normal. I can even unlock the car from inside my house with door shut with the car in the garage about 25ft away.

I looked everywhere and could not find an energizer or duracell so I had to settle for rayovacs.

Talking about range...I locked my car with the key inside, while in NorCal.

I called home (SoCal) since I had a spare key (with a remote on it). The person on the other line unlocked my car with the spare.

after more use I wanted to update again....

if anyone is having bad range and hasn't changed their battery, it's a must do.

my key works from 50-60 feet away no problem now with the fresh battery!

i got an e-mail telling me how to do this trick. i tried to use it on a bmw 745 but it didn't really work. i was at least 150 feet or more away from car, called friend and while in conversation i pressed the unlock button and he said it didn't unlock the car.

Will I need to reprogram the remote after replacing the battery?

Me too. Its the radio shack brand. We'll see how long it lasts. So far, no complaints, works just like the factory Panasonic.

It's a simple trick, all you need is your cell, and someone on the other line on their cell phone with your spare key. have them hold the key close to the phone and press the unlock key, at the same time place your phone by your car door and it will unlock. Have fun trying this one guys, it actually works !!

I heard this somewhere but is it true that it works when you put it under your chin because of the crowns and filling in your teeth that causes better reception?

Yea the sales associate was very helpful. He opened a brand new packet of mini phillips screwdrivers just to help me. Only the SMALLEST one worked. I'm not even sure that the eye glasses repair sized ones are small enough. You want the phillips so you can ensure that you get a tight re-installation so the master key doesnt get too wobbly.
