Cool Removing rear emblems

Just received the black pearl emblems for my GS430 from Steve Ganz. And I need recommendation on how to best remove the existing emblems without scratching my paint finish. Can't wait for this Thanksgiving holiday to install it.

Default help

hey man, use a blowdryer on hot and some tooth floss and just move it in a saw motion slowly keeping heat on the emblems and it will come off, then you need to get rid of most of the residue. Since you are putting the identical embelms back on but different color removing all the residue may not be tottally neccessary because it will help you with knowing where to put the new emblems

Default Thanks

Thanks Sasha:

Now I need to make arrangement with a friend with a garage for me to plug in a blowdryer. I live in a condo with no outside power outlet.

How do you clean all the residue from the paint? I was thinking of using WD40 to melt the adhesive then clean it with Dawn detergent then clayed the area. How did you remove your's?

As for putting the new emblems back on I was going to make a cardboard template of the exisiting location before I remove them.

Thumbs down

WD40!

That sure doesn't sound too healthy for the paint job.

I wouldn't do it...there has to be something better. If you are just replacing emblems and placing them in the EXACT location, I would leave the residue there. You wont be able to see the difference anyway.

my 2 cents.

Good luck!

i used many different things, put on some polishes and use paper towels and jsut rub rub hard as you can. it will look like nothing is happening, but then look at the other side. be patient polishes, paper towels ripping at it. as long as its not sharp or could scratch

I used a soft rag and a several minutes of rubbing gently with rubbing alcohol.

Got everything off, then washed, polished and waxed the area. It looks perfect.

GooGone works well also. If you have some fishing line available, it's probably a little less likely to break than dental floss (depending on what test it is). But floss certainly works well enough that I wouldn't go buy fishing line just for this.

Heat is the key; the warmer that glue, the softer it is.
