We all wish it was that simple, its not.

The factory amp is also a digital sound processor. This digitally controls the balance, fader, sub cut-off freq, basically everything but the master volume. The CD player also connects directly to the amp!

My advice would be to keep the factory amp in the system and use line convertors to reduce the level of the output of the factory amp so this signal goes to the input of your kicker amp.

If you look at the diagrams below, the radio connects directly to the amp and has only a simple balanced L & R output (+ and -), the radio also sends a digital signal to the amp via the BUS+ and BUS- lines to change the fader/balance etc..

First off, for a non factory amp its not that clean cut. Have you ever done this before?

You may want to read this
http://www.caraudiohelp.com/how_to_i..._a_car_amp.htm

There is also the issue of connecting to the stock wiring for the speakers. Did you check to see if you even have any speakers there? Since you mentioned that the previous owner apparently had a aftermarket system, he may have taken the speakers with him.

Here ya go thanks to the wonder of utilizing the search feature of the site.
